Abilities can be considered a character's "base stats." They determine a character baseline, innate ability with physical, mental, and social tasks before skill levels are taken into account. Abilities are also used to calculate Attributes like Health, Magicka, and Stamina, which will be discussed later.

Each abilily has a modifier determined by the ability's score. The modifier increases by +1 every five ability levels and caps at +14 at a score of 100. (Table: Ability Scores and Modifiers).
Reminder: Ability modifiers are different than Skill modifiers for the same score, be sure to refer to the correct chart when determining your modifiers.
Strength measures a character's physical power. The strength modifier is added to:

Agility measures a character's reflexes, hand-eye coordination, balance, and dexterity. The Agility modifier is added to:

Intelligence is a measure of a character's learning and reasoning skills. The Intelligence modifier is added to:

Willpower is a character's mental resilience and tenacity. The Willpower modifier is added to:

Personality is how adept a character is in social situations, their ability to lead, persuasiveness, etc. The Personality modifier is added to:
Awareness is how well a character percieves and analyzes the world around them. The Awareness modifier is added to:
Attributes are other important character stats that are derived from the above Ability scores.
A character's Health is the amount of Damage they can endure.
A character's starting Health is their Strength plus Endurance divided by 2.
A character's Magicka is the amount of points they have per day to cast on spells.
A character's Magicka is equal to their Intelligence score multiplied by (1 + Racial Magicka Bonus).
A character's Stamina is the amount of points they have per day to spend on Special Maneuvers.
A character's starting Stamina is the sum of their Endurance, Strength, Agility, and Willpower scores divided by 4. If this results in a decimal, round down to the nearest whole number.
Armor Class (AC) is the number another creature needs to meet or exceed in order to land an attack on a character. Wearing armor increases a character's AC.
AC = 10 + Agility Modifier + Armor Bonus
Initiative is the number added to an Initiative roll when entering combat to determine turn order. Initiative is equal to a character's Awareness modifier.
Load is the maximum amount of item weight a character can carry on their person. It is three times a character's Strength score.
